Bainbridge-Decatur County Planning Commission

The Bainbridge-Decatur County Planning Commission recommends or makes suggestions concerning the laying out, widening, extending and parking on and location of streets, sidewalks and boulevards; the relief of traffic conditions, congestion, and development of housing and sanitary conditions, and the establishment of zones or districts; makes suggestions concerning the use of buildings or structures and land; recommends to the city council and all other public authorities plans for the future growth, development, and improvement of the municipality, especially with regard to its public and private buildings, works, streets, parks, grounds and vacant lots; recommends plans consistent with the future growth and development of the city and county, looking toward the proper sanitation and service by public utilities. The Bainbridge-Decatur County Planning Commission studies and proposes such measures as may be advisable for the promotion of public interests, health, morals, safety, comfort, convenience and welfare of the city and county.

They are also responsible for preparing the necessary County regulations for day to day operation and management of the County. The Planning Commission maintains and updates the County Comprehensive Plan, to ensure its consistency with State and Federal laws. The adopted regulations include the Land Development and Construction Regulation Ordinance, Sign Ordinance, and all other applicable County ordinances. The Planning Commission intends to provide information to citizens, residents or members of the business community on interpretation and administration of the regulations adopted by the County. 

The Bainbridge-Decatur County Planning Commission meets on the 2nd Tuesday of every month at 6:00 pm (only when an application has been submitted for review) in the Council Chambers located at City Hall.
