FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Bainbridge, GA – Bainbridge Public Safety is proud to announce the launch of its new initiative, "Hydrant Heroes: Keeping Bainbridge Safe, One Flow at a Time," aimed at ensuring fire hydrants in the community are maintained to National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) standards without exceeding budget constraints.
The initiative will be implemented in phases, with each phase prioritizing hydrants based on need and their condition. The main objectives of the program are to enhance public safety by maintaining hydrants that are fully operational, easily accessible, and properly identified in the event of an emergency.
"Hydrant Heroes" will focus on three key areas for each hydrant:
Sandblasting – Hydrants will be thoroughly cleaned and restored to remove old paint, rust, and debris, ensuring that all mechanical components function optimally.
Height Adjustments – Hydrants will be adjusted to the proper height to meet NFPA standards and ensure ease of use during emergencies. This ensures fire crews can quickly and safely connect hoses when needed.
Repainting & Color Coding – Each hydrant will be repainted using a color-coding system that clearly identifies water flow capacity. This system allows firefighters to quickly assess hydrant efficiency during emergency responses. The color coding will follow NFPA guidelines, providing clarity for fire personnel.
"Our goal with the 'Hydrant Heroes' initiative is to ensure that Bainbridge's fire hydrants meet national safety standards, are reliable in times of need, and are maintained in a cost-effective way," said Doyle Welch, Fire Chief. "By tackling this project in phases and prioritizing based on need, we're able to maximize the impact without straining our budget."
The phased approach will allow Bainbridge Public Safety to focus on the hydrants that are in the most critical condition first, addressing areas with the highest need for maintenance. Over time, the initiative will ensure that all hydrants are up to code and ready to serve the community.
The initiative not only improves safety but also demonstrates Bainbridge's commitment to efficient and effective resource management. By using a phased, needs-based approach, the city ensures that every dollar is spent wisely, while still providing the highest level of public safety.
